On the afternoon of June 12th, a PKU visiting professor awarding ceremony was held at China Social Work Research Center for Professor Yuen-Tsang Woon Ki, the vice president of Hong Kong Polytechnic University and professor of Department of Applied Social Science. Li Yansong, the PKU vice president, Jia Weizhou, the director of the first division of Department of Social Work of the Ministry of Civil Affairs, Geng Qin, the undersecretary of the Ministry of Social Science, Zhao Wenli, the deputy secretary-general of the PKU Education Foundation, Zha Jing, the Party secretary of the Department of Sociology, Professor Wang Sibin of the Department of Sociology, as well as social work teachers and students from other colleges and universities, more than 120 people attended the ceremony. On behalf of PKU, the vice president Li Yansong presented a visiting professor certificate to Professor Yuen-Tsang Woon Ki. He thanked Professor Yuen-Tsang Woon Ki for her concern and support to PKU, and hoped that Professor Yuen-Tsang Woon Ki would continue to promote the good relationship between PKU and HKPolyU as well as to promote PKU’s social work development. Professor Yuen thanked PKU for the great honor, and gave an academic report on “The Transformation Ability of Social Work Education: The Revelation and Reflection of International Experience”.
Professor Yuen is Vice President (Student and Global Affairs) of The Hong Kong Polytechnic University (PolyU). Professor Yuen graduated from the University of Hong Kong (HKU) with a Bachelor of Social Sciences in Social Work and Sociology in 1975, obtained a Master in Social Work from University of Toronto, Canada in 1978, a Master in Education from University of Manchester, England in 1983, and a Doctor of Philosophy (Social Work and Social Administration) from HKU in 1995. Before joining PolyU in 1986, Professor Yuen worked as a social worker, and taught at the Hong Kong Shue Yan College and the National University of Singapore. She was Head of the Department of Applied Social Sciences from 2004 to 2010 and concurrently as Associate Vice President from 2007 to 2010.
From January 2014 Professor Yuen has been a member of University Grants Committee.
Professor Yuen was appointed as a Justice of the Peace in 2002 and received the Bronze Bauhinia Star in 2008.
